CarlF, fished the pier last year in May. Got hooked to monitor this site. Do you recommend this reel? And what rod would you put with it?

I haven't used my 6500V yet, but it seems well built and smooth.
I put it on a 7' BassPro Brawler MH saltwater rod, it was about $49.Carl

I have the abf 40a and am absolutely in love with it. Silky smooth and I use it on the pier for about anything. Managed to get a 4 foot shark up to the pier after a 20 minute fight so I believe that it can handle pretty much anything on the pier. I also use it for surf fishing and have had no problems yet

what the differences between the 40 and 80, spool size and line capacity, maybe?
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
