    Number of lines...?

What is the maximum number of lines one can have in the water at anyone time? Does it differ on the pier as compared to surf fishing?

Yep, like Martin said, only one rod at a time one the pier, per the pier rule. I have seen people put out an extra rod, only to have it snatched overboard by a hard hitting fishy.
I have never heard of a limit on how many you can set out in the surf. The same thing applies to losing gear in the surf if you can't get to it in time.
If you plan on parking at the pier to surf fish, be aware that you have to be at least 100 yards east or west of the pier to fish and/or swim.
    Hope this helps.

yeah you can put out every rod you own in the surf if you think you can man all of them. LOL Fort Morgan. West pass. and the beach right across the bridge on the east side of the pass are your best areas for surf fishing. the gap in the bar about 1/4 mile west of the pier will hold good numbers of whiting and pompano when the water is right

I figure it this way, if everyone in the world had a lie clock, whose hands moved once every time they lied. You could use any politicians lie clock as a ceiling fan.
