No luck on sharks 6/12/2015
Fished the bay by the house we were staying at and limited out on hard heads and one 24" sail cat while trying to get the specks to bite. Last day there I decided to try for some shark so we drove down to no name rd and walked until I saw a spot where the waves were acting weird. Got set up just in time to watch a thunderstorm roll over the rigs and into mobile bay. Once it was clear we weren't going to have to leave I waded out and chucked a 10 inch piece of lady fish as far as I could. The storm had mucked up the water and the surf was ruff so I couldn't even get over the first bar. Needless to say I didn't have much hope but watching the family pull in hard heads was worth it. About an hour later (and three re-casts) my girlfriend says, "Your pole is acting weird". I run over and grab it, crank the drag up to about 30lbs, and this thing doesn't even slow down. At this point he's taken 200yds of line and doesn't seem to notice he's hooked. Based on everything I've read on here hooking up with a shark is like trying to lasso a hurricane. Thrashing, jerking, rolling, but this was just pulling line. I start thinking I've hooked a log that somehow is swimming. 300yds out and I start following it. Finally get it to stop after walking about 80yds. Turn it into the beach and start regaining some line. I'm pretty certain it's not a shark at this point and I'm thinking maybe a huge ray. Imagine my surprise when this monster rolls up on the beach.

Fin-Nor Lethal 100 and a Silstar rod I bought from a nice German man who can't fish anymore. I've posted on here about the rod and haven't been able to find anything on it. His description was, "It's a carp rod but catch whatever you like you can't break it."

How'd you like the FN Lethal 100? I just grabbed a breakaway cannon for mine to help me cast it.

The reel had no problems with the fish at all. As far as casting, I had planned to yak my bait out but the thunderstorm made the surf too rough. Got some awesome pictures though. That left me wading out as far as I could and trying to chuck 8oz of lead and about 9" of lady fish as far as I could directly into the wind. I knew I couldn't get out far enough that the waves wouldn't beach my bait so I just tried to chuck it onto the first bar. Figured it'd roll through that deep part before hitting my feet. With a good rod though this thing would cast alright. But bear in mind my other reels are Shakespeare model Walmart and a Sea Striker I got from J&M 4yrs ago.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
