Newbie Alert
New to the area and have been lurking on the forum since my join date to try and soak up as much info as I can. I will be in the area this weekend with hopes to visit J & M and do a recon of the pier. I know nothing about salt water fishing and look forward to hopefully finding a pier and surf guide that has a lot of patience. The forum search has given me great ideas for starting my gear.

Hello, skyward, and welcome to the Forum. Do not let your lack of knowledge of salt water fishing deter your attempts to participate. If you are already a fisher, it is not a great leap to salt water. I myself have learned a little bit of it, and been successful. Having a pier and surf guide is a great idea, especially for the category of " What not to do ". I wish you the best of luck, and hope you will post pictures of your catches, even the fishes you can't brag about.

Welcome to the forum, skyward, and as somebody once said, "You are about to embark on a journey of excitement and discovery," or some B.S. like that. Whatever, you are coming to the pier at a good time. The spanish are biting, and that's always fun. Don't be afraid to ask questions---sure you'll run across some people who should have been smothered at birth, but most of the regulars on the pier are good folks who are more than willing to help a newbie. Just don't expect somebody to put down their rod to explain things to you when there is a hot bite going on. Consideration of others and basic politeness will take you a long way. Good fishing and have fun.
Cast straight out, and watch your line in reference to others.Last edited by Haywire; 08-19-2015 at 09:45 PM. Reason: murmidian phropensity

Welcome skyward You are about to embark on a new adventure One you'll never forget The excitement of saltwater fishing is next to none About this best advice I can give you is to hire Pier#er if he's still guiding He'll definitely point you in the right direction both Pier and Surf I think I'm going to make my return to the Pier after these hot summer days this Fri or Sat early morning so if I can help you or show you what I use let me know I pull a large pier cart with big grey sand tires and usually fly a banner that says DANS II I can show you a set up that I can almost guarantee that you can catch fish with this time of the year I'll be glad to help you

Skyward...looks like you and will be "in the same boat" when it comes to our experience fishing the pier this weekend. I'm sure it will be a blast regardless. The weather is looking great for the trip too.

*** Update *** I had an absolute blast this past weekend and cant wait to get back soon. I met several locals and forum members whose names I forget, but what I will never forget from a newbie standpoint is the fact that the locals are so willing to help. I did my recon and the next day showed up with my gear and pulled in three nice sp. maks. Want to thank the locals and those on the forum for the tips and advice. At the suggestion of forum regulars who post's I've searched, I went to J&M Tackle and those guys are awesome! My wonderful wife prepared a wonderful recipe with those three fish. My tummy is happy. I'm "hooked". I did take some pics of my catch and hope to post them soon when I learn how.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
