New to pier fishing
I live in north Al and recently aquired a camper and plan to pull it to gulf state park in the fall. While I'm there, I hope to get my four teenage sons into pier fishing. It's been about 20 yrs since I've pier fished in Tampa, so any tips or pointers on getting started would be greatly appreciated.

Also when you get down, go see the guys at J& M Tackle in Orange Beach. Their staff is second to none and they will be able to get you what you need for your trip.

Once you get to the pier just ask questions and watch what the guys that look like they know what is going on are doing.

One Bit of Advice:
I hope you have made reservations at the Park by now for Fall. During snow-bird season, they pretty much stay 99% booked.Carl

What CarlF said. You are ahead of the game if you are already looking for info, so kudo"s to you. On this forum, you can access all manner of questions that you need answers for. Scour some of the threads that you think are what you need by the Search link. I am from N. Al. and have been fishing the Gulf Coast since 1970; found GSSP forum last fall. This past May, my sweet and lovely wife and I had our best luck ever surf fishing for Pompano, Whiting, Flounder, etc., because of the wealth of knowledge shared thru this forum. Do some homework, and you and your boys will have the time of your lives. Take pictures and share them here; we all love a good fish story. And welcome to the Forum, buddyr80.

Well I have already made reservations, but I couldn't wait till fall so we will be coming down the first week of August. Trying to get set up with gear for 5 without spending a kings fortune, really looking for spinner reels with bait clickers.

Next to January,August can be the most brutal month to fish on the pier. Hold off spending any money on tackle because if it's hot you will be wasting money. I could be wrong, but there was not a king caught during the month of August last year.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
