Re: New to pier fishing
Hey Smoore. As PNG said, there's a lot of info in past posts that will be helpful.
Calling Pier#r and hiring him for half a day to show you the ropes on catching fish from the pier and the shore would be the best $100 you could ever spend. You would get a wealth of instruction and help, especially if you ask lots of questions.
Best time is early, late, and whenever the wind is howling so bad you can barely keep the bait in the water. Storms are usually good, too. Invest in some good rainwear because I've decided that frog toggs are a joke after last week on the pier.
Some surf or bottom fishing rigs would work on the pier, although again, from the reports, it seems they aren't doing too well down there lately in the shallows. Or they aren't telling.
Mostly you either swim live bait, freeline they call it, or snobble dead, frozen bait, mainly cigar minnows. Sounds weird but it works. You need treble hooks and steel leader wire to fish this way, and watch the guys on the end a while before you try to cast.

Educate me a little bit if you will. What are good turbidity numbers? If you can check those stats and determine what the water looks like before you go, that would be VERY helpful!
