New Annual Fishing License
Annual license expire the end of August, so I assume new ones go on sale some time before the end of August. If I do not have a license at all but buy a new annual license before the end of August, is it good immediately or not until September 1?

"Annual licenses expire Aug 31st."
New licenses go into effect Sept 1.

OK, thanks. At that site I saw the fee schedule tied to Sept 1, 2012, but was hoping an 'overlap' was allowed between buying a new license and the expiration of the previous year.

I hate it for you, because of the out of state cost for a license. I copied from the Outdoor Alabama web site the following:
Licenses
Alabama Saltwater Recreational Fishing License
***ANNUAL LICENSES EXPIRE AUGUST 31 OF EACH YEAR***
A Saltwater Fishing License is required for all persons fishing or possessing fish in saltwater areas of Alabama. (Saltwater Areas Map)
- RESIDENTS AND NONRESIDENTS UNDER THE AGE OF 16 ARE EXEMPT. RESIDENTS OVER THE AGE OF 65 ARE EXEMPT.
- Annual and seven-day trip licenses are available for residents and non-residents
- This license is also required for cast netting, flounder gigging and recreational crab traps
- RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
- SALTWATER ANGLER REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED for residents who are not required to purchase an annual saltwater license such as those 65 or older, have a lifetime saltwater license, or fish exclusively on a pier that has purchased a pier fishing license. Registration is free.
SALTWATER LICENSE FEES - EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2012

Usually they go on sale a few days before the end of august. You can purchase online, that makes it easy.

Alabama has a 'reciprocal agreement' with other states.
License fees charged to out of staters is the same as an Alabama resident would have to pay in that state.
Apparently, most (if not all) other states have raised their license fees to Alabama (out-of-state) residents, so we do the same in turn.(RETIRED) mostly.

It seems reciprocal agreements are usually only in place when another state charges more, not less. The real question I had was if a new annual license was good as soon as purchased, and it seems the answer is NO, it is not valid until September 1.
Might have seemed like an odd question, but here in Missouri I believe an annual license has an expiration date but not a beginning date. It is good as soon as purchased. If you get one as soon as they go on sale, you may get a few extra days.

you can get a pier only license for around 11.00 for the year....but that is pier only
House Bill 386 establishes a nonresident public pier fishing license for an annual fee of $10. The legislation also changes the annual expiration date of public pier fishing licenses and saltwater pier fishing licenses to August 31. Alabama residents can purchase an annual pier license for $5. Both pier licenses also require an issuance fee of $1 per license, which means a non-resident pier license would cost a total of $11 and the resident pier license would be a total of $6.

I had forgotten about the salt water registry so I will put a reminder on my calendar to refresh mine on Sep 1st.
It is nice that it is free for old folks like me. Thanks for the reminder.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
