My first post.
Hello all,
First of all let me say how much I enjoy reading everyone's posts and seeing the great pics. I am a wanna be pier rat who is stranded in north central Alabama just wishing I could be there everyday.
If you guys could pick one month out of a year to pier fish, which month would it be ?
Thanks for the posts and pics, they keep my hopes up.

I prefer April 22nd-27th(can be chilly)
and July 20-30th(its hot though)
I also like end of Sept-1st of Nov.
As always, stay well hydrated in the summer.. plenty of electrolytes, nothing like getting a Charley horse while fighting a fish...Nurse -- Father -- Falconer

Thanks for the advice. I am coming in October but just before the shrimp fest. Planning another trip for next April for the week after the full moon. Do you think the week of the full moon would be better?

April and October are typically excellent months to fish at the pier. I like May and September, too! March sometimes has memorable sheepshead fishing and November often brings a great "whiting" bite. There should be a good slot red bite taking place soon. The most important factors are the weather and water conditions. If we're having really stormy tropical disturbances, it doesn't really matter what the moon phase is. Except for sheepshead near the end of March or first of April, I don't especially like a full moon, all other things being ideal.

I'm with Ironman on favorite times. I would try and avoid the full moon and neap tides if possible. As eym_sirius said, the weather/water can be a huge factor---we get fronts in the late spring and tropical mayhem in the fall. You have gotten some really good advice, but the best time to go fishing is any time you can. You should do fine in October.
Welcome to the forum and don't be a stranger---even though some of us are a little strange, like me when they forget my meds and let me go unsupervised.

This is a great post!!! lol
Welcome to the forum.
Opinions may vary, but we all agree this is a great place to share information about what we all enjoy so much.
If I could pick any month of the year to fish the pier it would be whatever month we are currently in (yes, even August).
Kindof the 'flipside' of February (just HOT instead of COLD).
But it usually isn't very crowded, and even then fishing can be FUN.
Look for what is biting and enjoy the company ;-)
If you take Great Days Outdoors magazine, be sure to check out the 'Pier and Shore Fishing forecast' that I write for each month... https://greatdaysoutdoors.com/
That should give a good idea of what to expect when you get the chance to venture to the coast.
And the other articles ain't bad either ;-) lolLast edited by Pier#r; 08-16-2019 at 08:22 AM.

I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
