Re: Moon fish
There are a variety of Moonfish. Hopefully I can give you some insight on the most popular, and some of the cooler species.
The one you will see at the pier is most commonly confused with a Lookdown.
(Here are your GSSP culprits)

Atlantic Moonfish (Selene setapinnis): Heart shaped body with short dorsal and anal fins.

Lookdown (Selene vomer): Square shaped body with longer sloped head and much longer dorsal, anal and pectoral fins.
(Here are other Salt-water Moonfish)

Pacific Moonfish (Selene peruviana): Long oval shaped body with short dorsal and anal fins.

Lesser Opah (Lampris immaculatus): Silvery spotted body with red fins.

Opah (Lampris guttatus): Known as a Deepwater Moonfish. Silver body with orangish fins, and gets very large (more than 6').

Southern Ocean Sunfish (Mola ramsayi): Known as the Giant Moonfish throughout the world. Very similar to the Ocean Sunfish, the primary difference is there are generally 12 serations on the false caudel fin, as opposed to the 5-6 on the Ocean Sunfish (Mola mola).
(Brackish Water Moonfish)

Silver Moonfish (Monodactylus argenteus): These are my personal favorites of the Monos. There are a number of sub-species. You will see these schooling in the Bass Pro Shops salt-water tank in Spanish Fort, AL. They live in fresh, brackish or marine environments depending on their age.

Bilong-Bilong / Indo Spotted Moonfish (Mene maculata): A popular asian moonfish I ate a lot of while living in the Philippines. Look almost like giant freshwater hatchet fish.
(Fresh Water Moonfish)

Characin Moon Fish (Citharinus latus): Absolutely one of my favorite freshwater aquarium fish! Beautiful and peaceful. They get huge! Great dithering species.

African Moonfish (Bathyaethiops caudomaculatus): These guys are wonderful aquarium pets--great in schools.
There are a lot of sub-species called "Moonfish" in the freshwater category, but they only reference hybrid colors and aren't worth mentioning. The above two freshwater species are the only ones science recognizes as True Moon Fish.
Hope this Moon Fish guide provides you some helpful insight and assistance in identification.

Re: Moon fish
Hello, ladies, look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped using ladies scented body wash and switched to Old Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re on a boat with the man your man could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an oyster with two tickets to that thing you love. Look again, the tickets are now diamonds. Anything is possible when your man smells like Old Spice and not a lady. I’m on a horse.
