    Mono to seven strand

Coming to the pier Friday 13th to do a little catching. Been trying to tie 12 lb. mono to 20 lb. seven strand with an albright knot but when I pull it tight to snug it up, the mono breaks at the knot. Anybody else have this problem? Haven't tried any other knots yet, thought I would get some of your opinions before trying something else. For now, I'm going back to 40 lb. mono with the knot John G. uses. (overhand knot on end of leader, uni knot on main line around leader, snug uni up to overhand.)

I did an Albright using 10# mono and 15# sevenstand. Had to pull the knot slowly and keep lubricated or else it would break but if I did it right and slowly it worked flawlessly.

Try to slide the knot down with less force. Lube it up good and use your fingers to ease it down the leader instead of just pulling both ends. If your mainline is accurately rated, it is pretty easy to break 12 lbs or less in your hands. Keep in mind there is no such thing as a 100% strength knot so your break strength could easily be 8 pounds.

I called myself pulling it down slowly and keeping it lubed, just need more practice I guess. Would love to start using seven strand as a leader to help prevent cut offs. Only real problem I've had with 40 lb. mono leader is blue fish cut offs. (At least that's what Harley said was cutting my leader on my Looney jigs.) Leader was not frayed but clean cut. By the way, what is best right now on the bubble rigs for spanish, straws, sunglass straps, spoons, speck rigs, or something else? Would love to catch some Friday, hopefully larger than keychains.

Lubrication is the trick, and slowly slide it down to the end. Otherwise the friction is a problem. Be gentle with it.
