may trip question
Im planing a trip to gulf shores in the middle of May for 2 weeks. My question is, will the pier be crowded around that time? Any events that go on around that time? Thanks in advance.

Re: may trip question
If fishing sucks you'll be OK,but if it's good you might want to stay away.

That's sort of a Catch-22, isn't it, John?

Re: may trip question
Correct. If kings were chewing the pier down today it would be elbow to elbow.During the dog days of summer there may be less than twenty on the end in the morning even though the condos are maxed out.Quality of the fishing, not time of year dictates the crowd.

Re: may trip question
Will be there May 11 - 18. Last year the same week was the "Super Moon". Pier was crowded but still very fishable.
Not to sound "politicaly incorrect" but there was a VERY large crowd of folks of Asian descent there at the time.
Most were very polite, a few just crammed right in where there was not room and most seemed to be "meat" fishing.
Had the best 5 days on the pier, fish wise that I ever had. As John said it can vary from day to day. I could come and fish for 5 days with NO bait and still have a good time with all the characters on the pier!!!!!

Crowded piers dont bother me, but I want to take some time this trip and put my gf on her first king. Just dont want her to get overwhelmed.

Re: may trip question
More people= more baits to snake
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Bigboy....looks like we'll be there about the same time. I'll be happy to hand off my rod to anyone, kid, bystander ect. that really wants to land a fish. May bring the video camera and film more than I fish. Do that alot in the deer stand anymore.

Exactly Dave. Turbidity is a measure of how clear water is, or how much light is scattered by particles in the water. Turbid water appears cloudy or muddy (dingy). The particles that scatter light...
