    Little Lagoon Fishing Report 07-22-2014

Today I went kayak fishing in Little Lagoon. I live beside of Pier 33 on West Beach Rd. so I fish the East end of the lagoon. The water was calm today with a current moving ENE. I went out at 5:30 and fished until sundown. The water clarity in the Lagoon still sucks as of today. Brownish tea colored water in the shallows. I fished my secondary spot because my first "payday" spot didn't pay off. But dang was I glad I moved because first cast, 16" Speckled trout. I released it to get bigger. I caught a rat red and a 10" mangrove snapper in the same spot I was anchored. I limited out on slot redfish, but I caught four slots in all.

I was using Live shrimp on a H&H Tackle TKO Popping Cork with about 3ft of 20lb. 100% Flourocarbon. I put a BB sized split shot about 6" above my number 8 treble hook.

    Here are some pictures:

Nice! I'm really wanting to get a redfish. I kayak fished the lagoon this morning and got a 20.5" speck and that was my only fish. Had a few blowups on topwater that I missed. If you wanna join forces and kayak fish this week let me know. I'm here until Monday.

Thanks for the great report from LL. Those are some fine looking reds. Has the work on the bridge and at the pass hurt the fishing? Hope to get back in October and try it again.
