    Natural Gas Rigs.

There are no oil wells in state waters or in federal waters within ~50 miles of the Alabama Coast.

There are a good number of gas rigs out in both state & federal waters off Alabama.
They provide a huge amount of reef habitat and great fishing.
And a good bit of revenue for the state trust funds, not as much as they used to, but still significant:

    A cool map.
Many of the rigs we used to fish south of DI back in the early to late 90s are now gone.

Closest one to the pier appear to be about 9.7 miles, in federal waters.
