Leaders for lures
I think I've seen this discussed before, but I don't remember, and I didn't come up with anything in the search, so, tell me what kind of leaders you like to use for your casting lures----Yo-zuris, spoons, etc.---mainly for kings. I might try to chunk a lure this year instead of drowning LYs---the resulting tangles may be awesome.

Here's a link to where this was discussed before Mr. George:

Seemed like some good advise. I want to catch a king this year on a minnow plug, too.

Re: Leaders for lures
Thanks, Rich, that's the post I remembered from back in my foggy memory. Only question is, what size single strand wire do you start with?

Re: Leaders for lures
I use 27 or 32
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Re: Leaders for lures
I personally use either 40lb or 60lb seven strand. Might get a few less hits but I'm not loosing a 20.00 lure due to leader failure.

I figure it this way, if everyone in the world had a lie clock, whose hands moved once every time they lied. You could use any politicians lie clock as a ceiling fan.

I hear what you are saying, but you are a "regular" who will get lots of chances in a season. As a short-term visitor (tourist) I would not be using a $20 lure, but I would gamble a $5-10 spoon or bucktail with lighter wire to have a better shot at kings. Coming all that way and then cutting corners is being penny wise pound foolish. IF the villians at cutting off lures were sharks or blues, then by all means go heavier on wire. I even use hard floro rather than wire for spanish on gotchas and bubble-rigs for the same reason, but I'd use wire live-baiting for spanish.
