    Labor Day and tides

I'm trying to plan a trip down in September is Labor Day weekend a good time or because of the crowds is it better to do another weekend? What are you looking for in the tide to increase your chance of catching more fish? Thanks for any input...

Sept is an all around good month The later in the month you can come the better Labor Day will be crowded I'd shoot for Mid Sept if you could both for catching fish and the weather If you are targeting spanish kings and blues tides really aren't going to make that much difference Be on Pier at daylight or late afternoon and you're going to catch fish

Thanks Dan. I will reschedule for the weekend of the 18th. Is the pier even fished in the winter months?

I d say you are now coming in prime time with better weather and less crowd Good choice You should do well People fish the pier year round and catch fish As with the heat of summer I'm not fond of the cold which is really only about Jan and Feb but others do and catch fish Lot of info on here Search pass reports for a particular time and you'll get an idea of what goes on Followvthe reports as your trip nears and you'll get a good idea of what's happening I'll definitely be out there mid Sept so look me up if I can help

Late July-August weather is the 'flip-side' of late January-February weather.
Results are similar for obviously different reasons ;-)

Just like a warm spell in February can make the catching better, so can a break in the oppressive heat of August.
Usually mid day is best in February, early and late in the day are better in August (usually), but this waning full moon may make the morning fishing better in the coming days once we get off this NEAP tide and the temps drop a little with the cloudiness predicted...
