    Kings at the pass

Is it common to catch kings from the sea wall at Perdido Pass? We decided to goof off at Alabama point yesterday since the wind cut our kayak trip short. When we got to the sea wall we saw lots of LY's against the wall. So we thought we would throw some cigs to see if we could catch some blues or something. We ended up catching 2, losing 1, and seeing another.

    Re: Kings at the pass

You hit it a 'good time'.
It's not common at all really, but has happened occassionally for decades.
Often when conditions get right (water VERY clear, incoming tide, LOTS of bait and light boat traffic) they will show up several days in a row.
The old "Outrigger" store that stood at the west end of the public parking area had some pictures in it of kings caught from the wall.
They even had some pics posted of folks with kings that had 'skied' on bait next to wall and landed in the parking lot. ???
Carazy stuff over there sometimes ;-)
    (RETIRED) mostly.

    Re: Kings at the pass

I thought is was very uncommon. I couldn't believe my luck. I did see someone hook a really nice king on the north side of the bridge about a month and a half ago. They got it all the way to the wall and weren't patient enough to wait for a gaff and tried to scoop it in a net. It was barely hooked so it popped out. It made me wonder if maybe it was pretty common for them to come in but maybe I was just at the right place at the right time (twice).
