King/Spanish runs.....
This is a shot in the darkness of my ignorance. Last year there was a huge run of kings in late April. This year has already seen a run in March of kings and big Spanish. Right now there seems to be a lull. Is the initial run usually the biggest with small intermittent numbers from time to time afterwards......or are you still looking for really great days to come? Is there any rhyme or reason to when they show up or is it as random as winning a lottery?

Re: King/Spanish runs.....
the lull was caused by several factors. the biggest one is that i WAS down on the gulf all week last week. I am back in TN now so the runs will bust into a frenzy like never seen before!
Also the full moon, neap tides and north winds last week.

Whew! I thought I was the only one that could shut down a bite.
I guess I'm just trying to figure out if the big April run last year happened in March this year and I missed it....or is it still possible there might be another feeding frenzy later.

With all the different factors that play a role, it's very unpredictable.
For what it's worth, I saw 3 net boats yesterday evening headed south. That tells me something.
Like everyone says, you gotta be out there trying. Never know when they might go on fire again. Hopefully soon!

Re: King/Spanish runs.....
IMHO the environmental factors are the biggest influence on the current lull. (i.e. not at all unusual)
Full moon, bright sunshine, shifting winds and currents, but maybe net boats running over the fish all night long hasn't helped our situation situation either.
Anyway, with more stable weather, a waning moon, clear water and bait fish around the pier a pattern will soon emerge and the macs should return in force.
Hopefully, April 2012 will be another 'epic' month of pier fishing!

Re: King/Spanish runs.....
My previous prediction, if you can call it that, was April 12th for big king day.
When it comes to Kings, though, predictions are as good as guesses on a multiple choice test.
Nonetheless, I personally think we'll see some good runs between 4/10 - 4/16, and anothr big boom after the 20th.

I seen fish killed in Melbourne in the early 70's, we were snagging some monster fish out of the ICWW around Merrit Island. loved the fishing opportunity's as a kid there, fresh and salt water both...
