King Reel Size
In a other posting regarding a rod for his reel and not wanting to hi-jack the thread my question is what is a good size
reel for the job without having too little or to much reel ?If you are going to fight, fight like you are the third monkey on the ramp to Noah's ark and brother, it's starting to rain!

6000 series or 60....you can get by with some 5000/50.....or bump up to the 70's....all depends on spool size and depth for line capacity

IMHO---a 650 is plenty, especially if you fill it halfway with 20-25# braid, then 15#mono. Won't wear you out fishing all day---some brands are lighter than others. I've seen several folks fishing with a 150 (?) VanStaal, which holds plenty of braid. A 500 will do the same, and as a matter of fact, I can get enough 20# braid on my 4000 Penn Battle 2 to deal with most kings, but I'm more comfortable with a larger reel. Basically, you need a reel that will hold 300 yds. of 15# test----Momoi line is rated 16#, but tests way higher, over 20#.
Now, you have the pleasant job of going down to J&M (if you're lucky) and standing in front of the reel case like a kid at a candy store. Be careful though, they don't like it when you drool on the glass top.

A reel capable of holding 250 yards of #15 mono is all you normally need.
I use a 6500 series OkumaCarl

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
