Yes, it is way overkill IMHO, the line capacity is much more important.
20# is fine, and even 30#.
    A 300 yard spool of 30# braid should fill a Battle 6000.

300yds of 30 braid then topping it off with 15 or 16lb mono will give you around 425yds total. Smaller lines cast better, less drag on the bait while it swims and less drag if the current is ripping.

For kings, I would use mono, it holds over 300 yards of 15# according to Penn.

Put some good 15lb or 16lb mono on your battle. If you want more capacity follow john g's advice. I always put a braid backing and a top shot of mono. The people fishing around you will thank you

My Battle 6000 holds 335 yards of 15 # Stren magnathin . Plenty in MHO . That's filling the spool myself . With J&M filling it with Momoi it will most likely hold as much if not more . I know for a fact that they can get 237 yards of #12 momoi on my Stradic 5000 and the specs. say the spool will hold only 195 yds.

I used to use 65lb braided. I lost 4 $10 lures and 3 nice fish on that thing. And I am never able to catch fish using live bait on it.

Then I switched to 17lb mono as people suggested here. Problem solved.

Just want to add another vote for the mono (full or topshot, your choice). No matter how hard you try you are going to wind up in a tangle with someone else and the braids sure make a mess. Of course, some may want to use braid just because other people will avoid fishing near them - I sure do, especially on windy days.

People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

Who makes 17# these days? I have not seen it in years.
