kayak in gulf shores
I have a 14 foot fishing kayak, and have never used it in the ocean, but i fish with it all the time at local lakes. i was wondering where you guys go kayak fishing in gulf shores, what you catch, and what baits you use. m Ive heard that it is good kayak fishing in the lagoon for specks. I also have friends who fished out near the pier from the beach and have caught kings. Im just looking for some advice for how to kayak fish at gulf shores.

Re: kayak in gulf shores
not a yaker yet....but safety should be your first concern....maybe team up with a couple others that do it often and go out with them around the pier....on a calm day when getting off the beach and back won't be too much of a problem in the surf....there should be a few to chime in

Check out gckfa.com or Mobilekayakfishing.com both have some good people and will be happy to help. Do not go in the Gulf without someone else unless you have a lot of experience. :shark

Peaches is the man to hook you up on this. He does charters once it warms up some. I'm sure he can show you some ropes. I haven't fished enough from a kayak to give a lot of advice, but I do know you can always troll a live bait, and a spoon when after the kings. Specs like live bait, but can often be caught on DOA's, and sometimes on topwater lures. A milk crate works good for holding rods, and gear/bucket. Make sure you strap everything you don't want to lose in and always wear a PFD.

Re: kayak in gulf shores
What kind of kayak is it? Once it warms up, we'll head off the beach a good bit. But for now, much more productive to stay around the bays and rivers

Don't listen to Ty J.. He doesn't know anything about fishing except how to pack a cooler, shoot me a pm with questions or if youd like to take a trip and post up again closer to
When you will be here.
You wanting o inshore fishy more or BTB?(beyond the breakers)Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years
