Kahle or circle hook
Dropper rigs for whiting and pompano usually come with kahle hooks, but I've seen some preference for circle hooks as well as they "set themselves." What's your preference for a rod in a spike (not held where you set the hook yourself)? Kahle or circle?

With sandfleas, we use small circle hooks, for whiting, its small, #4, kahle type. But am wishy-washy, sometimes, and rig everything with kahle hooks.

I usually change all my pompano rigs to circle hooks. I don't know if I hook more fish that way but I feel like I do lol

I use circle hooks when I'm drop jigging and when I bottom fish for reds, but I feel like I have had better bites and hook-ups for pompano and whiting with Kahles. To paraphrase that, my Carolina jigs have circle hooks, and my Pompano jigs have Kahles.

I don't hook as many pompano on circle hooks. I may be using the wrong size but it seems like they are good at getting ghost shrimp and sandfleas off circle hooks and not getting hooked. Sometimes they get hooked deep on a kahle and an undersize throwback bleeds pretty bad most likely killing it.

I've used #4 Kahle hooks for some time now for pomps and whiting...quite satisfied. That being said, I'm going to try some circles this trip and see if there's much of a difference, if any.

What brand kahle hooks do you guys use. I can't seem to find small kahle hooks with a
arge enough eye for my premade leaders. Typically I use something like 15pd fluorocarbon

I use 10lb fluoro line for single drop and double drop rigs, and some #4 hook eyes are too small for the loop to pass through. So, #2 hook size goes on the loop.

Personally like the #6 Eagle Claw (bronze) kahle.
With a little work I can replace the #4 gold kahles on those cheaper hi-lo rigs.
I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
