    Jack Crevalle fishing...

I had fun with big spanish about halfway between the bathrooms and the octi, catching them on small LYs. There were bluefish there too. I had one report of a good flounder bite in the morning, also pompano.

As Pier#r calls them, the Beach Buzzards were aggressive and hungry. I caught two myself---just couldn't get the bait away quickly enough---and helped release others. They are a prime nuisance, but it isn't their fault. I also had a catch and release on a tern----flew him like a kite for a while. Forgot to mention yesterday that I hooked and lost a 10 lb. red snapper, one of two hanging around the octi. He ate my LY and dove under the pier---there was a small cobia with them.

I finished cleaning my fish just as the rain started, and I think I'll give the fish a break and stay home tomorrow. The wind is pretty stout and the current is out of the west. There seems to be plenty of bait as long as the schools of jacks don't come along and attack the
them jacks are fun to fight but last year i had one break my reel i was told by some guy to go by J&M and he would give me a great deal on a new reel but i didnt ever get a chance

try to use the 750 on jacks if your 706 is an older one, im not saying by any stretch that it cant handle them, but some old 706s tent to not like fighting jacks, so just fyi, i would hate to see you mess up your 706
I figure it this way, if everyone in the world had a lie clock, whose hands moved once every time they lied. You could use any politicians lie clock as a ceiling fan.

Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Where did you fish out of Peaches?

Regarding using 706s for jacks, just don't put the line overly tight on the spool. Don't crank the handle all out with a tight drag. Let the rod do the work and put the line on gently. We've used 706s for crevalle, tarpon, amberjack, 40 lb dolphin, blackfin tuna, whatever. It isn't about the fish on the other side, it is about how you use the reel.

And I know this has been beaten to death, but you use a 706 because it sounds cool and is stylish. If you want to dominate fish on tight drag buy a modern (not necessarily expensive) reel.

You don't really put 706 and stylish in the same sentence either lol. It's a classic and every pier fishermen wants one. I never got one because I feel my battle is a much better reel when I first start fishing the pier.

I've been thinking about gettting a zeebaas, J&M is stocking them, the only bad thing I've heard about them is the odd drag knob

While a reel that price should last forever, you can also make a reel that costs 20% as much last almost forever.
