It's gonna blow....
NDBC - NWS Forecast
The fabled East wind is gonna be blowing this week. Wish I was there.
Shoot, catch a few kings or big Spanish and I WILL be there.

I'll be there tomorrow (Tues.) and will let you know what's happening. Who knows? It might happen to me.

That's good news as I'll be heading down this Friday. Back in June I was fortunate to catch some good eatin' reds. While there, I noticed many fishermen on the octi pulling in Spanish. I'd like to do a little fishing for them this weekend; any suggestions on lures or tackle to use to catch the Spanish?

Standard fare for Spanish is live bait -- small LY's when available are killer. 50# Florocarbon leader or small wire, 15# or 18#, #6 treble hook or smaller.
Also gotcha plugs -- I used to use wire leader but went to 40# and 50# floro -- you lose some to their teeth but get bit more.
Loony jigs -- a gulf coast staple. Jig up fast and let them sink and repeat.
Bubble Rigs. Best thing to do is go to J&M tackle and ask to see them and how to work them.
Small jerk baits like the x-rap....soft plastic works sometimes....small spoons....if it sounds like lots of different things catch spanish that is correct. Sibiki rigs, too.
But then sometimes nothing catches spanish.
Good luck! Friday wind forecast is looking good, but don't know about water conditions. Keep watching, maybe you'll get an onsite update on what folks are getting bit on.

It should clear some once the wind backs down.
LYs aren't all that dependable a supply right now.
The babies are still a bit small to use for bait.
Artificials seem to do better in late August until the baby LY bite turns on in mid Sept ;-)

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
