    I think that map is showing a phytoplankton prediction, not the dead zone. IIRC, because of circulation the dead zone usually forms west of the mouth of the Mississippi. We definitely have lots of phytoplankton this year. I wish we had a monitoring station on the pier with DO, etc..

    I hope we don't get one.

    People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

    If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

    at least yall can fish.. we havent had fishable water since they opened the bonnet carre spillway.. I would kill to be about 2 hrs closer..

    Yes we are, though fishing has been affected even along the Alabama and NW FL coast with species displaced, water clarity and quality issues, etc.
    Last week I spoke with a charter captain from Biloxi, MS who had horror stories of diseased fish and near zero salinity in places that usually sport healthy shrimp, crab and saltwater fish this time of year.

    But now it's time for the gloom and doom news about the annual "dead zone".
    We'll see...
