    I know you hate me...

and I may even be considered a Googan as I'm not a local and live in Michigan. However I've been fishing the pier since I was 12 years old dating back to the mid 80's and have a pretty good idea as to what I'm doing as far as pier etiquette goes. Now here is why you hate me and my reasoning for doing so. ;D

I use braided line, yes I said braid. :run Here is why, most of my tackle is set up to fish outta boats and popping for pelagics, Cabrera Snapper, Pez Gallo(Rooster Fish) , as well as jigging, and to unspool and respool for the pier is not cheap.

Now I know the advantages of the braid and the disadvantages as far as tangles on the pier and that it will cut others off in an instant with a zippy King hooked up. (which I have been able to avoid so far, but I know it's a potential risk) What, if any other factors are a detrement to using braid on the pier.

I will listen to the criticism and see if you can convince me and my wallet that it warrants the change to mono for a couple weeks a year. 8)

Good luck and God bless see ya'll in about a month.

    Have a Good Day, Pez

    P.S.

I have equipment for both....offshore and pier that make the trip with me every time....and ready to go.....some with braid some with out.....but the braid doesn't go to the pier ....used to but I got tired of wind knots.....maybe because I spooled it myself and too loose??? not sure but it works for bottom bumping just fine and deep jigging too .....why would you say they hate you? as long as you pay attention to your line and bait....... it can be fished successfully from the pier

I have spare spools and they are loaded with braid also. I suppose I could look at buying a few more, but again not cheap. Still waiting on convincing. ;D

Fin, if I end up fishing the braid again this year I will wear the pass if that's all it takes and you can post it for all to see.

Ironman, it was meant as more sarcasm than anything, just having fun with it. I have taken a lot of crap about it, most in fun and joking around and some not so much. I just don't understand the hatred of it, especially as you say you are paying attention to what you're doing. 8)

Re: I know you hate me...

Ive got one rig with braid and a top shot of mono but dont use it much. The problem is even the best fishermen will let a fish get out of control . Especially at the strike if you talking to buddy and not paying attention. I dont use it much because it might mess someone else up first and worries about wind knots and tangle second. Ive been cut across the arm by braid when someone down the rail let one get away from them and i was talking not paying attention.

When the octi gets crowded, I don't care how good or careful you are, tangles are going to happen. It's an unavoidable part of pier fishing. Getting your line instantly cut on someone's braid is 100% avoidable.

Yo' pez thought I should change your P.S. up a little. As for braid,I love the stuff except for king fishing on the pier. As for changing line,go to a tackle shop and have them dump it onto a plastic spool then when you want to put the braid back on,do it.
