Thread: Fin-Nor Offshore Spinner?

Anyone have any firsthand input on Fin-Nor Spinners, specifically the Offshore models?
I've been looking at a new Fin-Nor OFS85, they seem pretty well made, good line capacity, incredible max drag (not that I'd ever use it all) and some good pricing.
Anyone have one, fished a friends or whatnot?
Good kit or junk?

Hmmmmm... Perhaps I'll just go find an old Penn 8500SS or 9500SS.

Why does anyone want a spinning reel that big? By the time you get that beast spooled with line it will be pushing two and a half pounds. A Penn 9500SS isn't much lighter and at a bare weight of 27 ounces a 8500SS is still a honking big reel. If you're looking for a reel capable of handling the size line these reels are designed for look for a conventional. Conventional reels are superior in terms of weight, capacity and affordability.

There are a number of spinning reels that weigh around 20 ounces. Back with braid and top with mono to have your 300-400 yds. Only way I have found to go lighter is with the VS150 at 12 ounces.

i made the mistake of getting a 9500ss and i hate it its tiring to have to hold that thing all day a 706 or a 704 or a 7500 will handle just about anything on the pier. just save some money and go ahead and het one of the reels i mentioned or some others like a mitchell 302

Another option is to pump iron so you can handle the heavy duty reels!

heck most people I see.... are leaning on the rail anyway(including me) and not really holding the reel all day long oke1:

my point is you dont need a reel that big and almost any LOCAL will tell you that from what i understand you dont fish the pier all summer you even said you even said you consider yourself a googan

True that most of us have our forearms or elbows resting on the rail, but we are still holding holding our reels. You also need to think about casting.

Why put in extra work so you can handle more? More that isn't needed.

i dont see how leaning on the rail isnt really holding your reel when i was holding that big 9500 my wrist was what was giving out eventually unless you mean setting your reel down and standing by it (which isnt as affective definitely if your using a dead bait) just because your leaning on the rail doesnt mean your not holding your reel
