How's the Fishing? Visitor from Michigan
Hello Everyone,
I have been on the pier prior- but we are coming down from Feb 28th through March 3rd from Michigan. Just wondering what my son and I might be able to hook into- on the pier?
Any suggestions as to bait and where to get it- would be great!
One last thing too- do we simply need a non-resident "pier" license?
Thanks and hope to see you all fishing!

All that info is available on "stickies" on the different sections of this site, and on the Search feature at the top right. Good fishing to you.

Fishing is still pretty slow, but warming up. The sheepshead are being caught on fiddler crabs and live shrimp, but not really going strong yet. Spanish mackerel are very spotty. Pompano and whiting are caught in the shallows but the bite is not hot. Steadiest bite is white trout on dead shrimp (a piece of fishbite also on the hook helps). As it warms all should get better.
J&M is your most dependable bait source. The pier had fiddlers today, but not always.
I don't know which kind of license you need, but you do need one.People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.
If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

Basically, small white trout on the end(use dead shrimp on bottom),
Use live shrimp or fiddler crabs for sheepshead suspended on or near the end.
Or fish for pompano/whiting with dead shrimp between the beach and first platform.
You will need at least a "pier license" ($11.25 per year) AND a daily pier pass to fish ($9).
Kids under 16 do not need a fishing license and the pier fees are a bit less (for kids 11 yrs or less)...

Welcome, Hope this helps!

I had quite circus tring to fish the pier the first time as far as getting a licence is concerned. The computer was down at the pier so was told we has to go out to buy one. We went back to J&M thinking sports shops would sell them. They were very nice to us but said that the only vendor was Walmart or we had to call the state, they have a person to talk you through it. They charge your credit card and give you a number to write down. really very easy. It would have been nice if the people at the pier had this information also or at least would have shared it with me if they did. The number you call is 1-888-848-6887. You can call ahead of time and they will start your licence when you want if you by a 7 day like I did than you can fish the pier or surf if you like. I had a very good time in AL. just a little frustrating to start with.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
