I went to get a few pics for an update, but they were lifting something so close to the road they had the traffic halted. After about 10 minutes, my impatience overwhelmed the desire for pics and I made a U-turn and headed to the pier.

I made it to the pass yesterday and looking around it is hard to see progress. Kinda like a house looks with all the foundation and infrastructure work before anything goes up. They are making headway with the seawalls on south side of the bridge, but I got run off before I could get a good pic.
The pile driver was steady at it and plenty noisy; I would hate to live right at the pass during this project. I looks like the pass is going to be really wide under the bridge and then bottlenecks down at the beach.

Water was crystal clear and the gulls were feasting on bait fish at north side of the walkway!

This drone pic (from an Aug 25th 'tweet') shows well the scope and progress of the project (which ALDOT now says is about 50% complete :-)
The existing seawall is still in place, but the new sheetpiles are going in and it's easy to realize how much wider the gulf side opening will be!
Also, the old bridge decks are being removed and the new bridge piles are being driven in on the west side.
Can't wait...

Oh man I can't wait! Any estimation on when they'll be done?
Are they allowing anyone to go around the construction area after work hours, to get bait, etc?

I heard they were going to put jetties on the Gulf side. Is that true?
You guys think the new construction will make this a better place to fish or take away from the fishing?
We've caught nice fish in and around that area.

I would hope and assume it would get even better. Deeper/wider channel and better current should make for some all around killer fishing. Can't wait to see some of the flounder that will come out of there now.

Construction plans show a seawall (not a jetty) extending about 100' south of the present rip-rap location.

The original projection was for 18 months (sometime in mid 2015)...

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
