Thread: How to fish sea wall

How do you fish the new sea wall for more desirable species? Thanks.

Depends on the water temp, tidal flow, etc. Watch for rocks close to the wall. You will lose a lot of tackle fishing to close

Bubble rig, small plugs, spoon, and gotchas for bluefish & Spanish.
Live shrimp, finger mullet or small LYs for grey snapper, redfish, and specs. Either on a Carolina rig away from the rocks or under a float.
Gulps & DOAs work well too.
Sheepshead will be tight to the structure, need live shrimp or fiddler crabs. Fiddler crabs are better this time of year since the pinfish tend to leave them alone.

We plan on fishing at the pass this Oct. If the sheephead are still around, how do you rig fiddler crabs for bait? Never have used them before.

I fish vertically with a carolina/fish finder rig using as small of an egg sinker as I can get away with (taking wind and current into consideration) a small swivel and fluorocarbon leader (I use about 12#, but you can probably get away with smaller) and a small strong circle hook. I have more than double-success using TWO fiddler crabs with the large claw removed. It seems to hide the hook better. I fish it off the bottom so that I can detect the bite if I can't see the fish inhale it.

I fish the same was as the pier pilings. Just like eyum says, but I use a #10 treble, and fish tight to the wall. Sheepies hang there for the barnacles. If you look at fiddler crab, there is a small division in the Shell front to back. Try putting hook through the back side of the division all the way through from bottom to top. This works for me.
