Helping a Friend
Last summer I brought a friend down to the beach from Montgomery. Many of the members on this forum may have had a chance to meet him, and see that he only has use of his right arm. His name is Curtis Drew. He is hands down one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. Curtis lost the use of his left arm a few years back due to a motor cycle accident, but that is not why I am writing this post. Well on that trip down to the beach to fish, there was supposed to be one more member that joined us for that trip but was unable to. Curtis's son Coleman was unable to make the trip due to his disease. Coleman was born with cystic fibrosis. This disease affects the lungs and digestive system of the human body. Coleman is oxygen dependent and things we do such as walking is a extremely tough task for this young man. He is currently living in Houston, Texas with his mother while his dad has to stay in Montgomery to work. He is on the transplant list awaiting a donor. I promised this young man and his father last year that I would get them out on the pier and introduce them to the addiction that so many of have come to love. If there is anything anybody can do for this family, I know Curtis would be more than grateful to be able to spend a few more years with his son.

I don't know you or your friend, but after reading his story, I couldn't help but respond. Hope everyone can spare a dollar or two for this family. A little can go a very long way in their situation. Best of luck to them and hopefully I can get to know you ALL sometime this summer.

Thanks for the post pier pest and what you are trying to do. I couldn't imagine not being around my kids in this situation and what the family must be going through. I have sent $50.00 as well. If we all pull together we can take a huge burden off this family. Lets pray for wonderful outcome so that one day we may have the opportunity to be able to fish beside this young man. Please keep us posted on his progress.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
