OK PierPals...I need some help. I am trying to fine a good reel for my custom CUI rod. First off, Penn 706 or Mitchell 302/304? Or any other suggests you may have. I need something that I can afford, but is still a good reel. Please help! :wall:

Look at the Daiwa Black and Gold reels..Tough reels with 5 sizes to choose from...I have one that I love....You might be able to find a used one dirt cheap at a pawn shop or online.

I have one of each size if you want to test drive one, let me know. I haven't seen any cheap, but you can find a good used one for around $50 if you are willing to watch for them on Ebay. Hard to find new. Rock's Reef had a few a while back, but I don't remember what size or how much.
An old Daiwa "C" series reel would be a good one too...I have a 7000c that I wouldnt trade for anything.
Check out some of the newer Penn reels. The Penn Battle is an affordable reel and from what I've heard it is reliable. I have a Penn Conquer 7000 and love it. There are some affordable and reliable Shimanos out there too.
I have a Penn 704Z for $90. It is in great shape. Send me a PM with any questions.
Elaina, if price is a consideration then maybe what JohnG said here would be interesting to you:

I would stay away from a 705 because you can't manually flip the bail, you have to crank the handle.Do the kid a BIG favor and get him one of the following reels with the bait runner feature:Old model Shimano BTR 4500(used price around $75),Penn 560L(new around $145) and the best reel for the money is the Okuma Avenger ABF65 and we sell it for $62.
