    Gulp jig fishing

How many of you throw gulp jigs either from the pier or the beach? Do you throw them seasonally or year round? How do you work them? Are you swimming them or trying to keep them on the bottom? What species are you looking for when throwing gulp jigs?

I like them best (from shore or pier) any of the 'warm' weather months.
    Primarily targeting flounder...

But redfish are 'suckers' for them too...

Keep them as close to the bottom as possible.
I like to 'drag' the jig along the bottom, with small 'hops' up off the bottom with a wrist snap.
    Hope this helps!

Gulp! is one of those products that really works. It is a must in your bag of tricks-in some cases it works better than live bait.

Two additional questions. What jig weight range do you throw and have you ever thrown a gulp shrimp on a carolina rig?

Lightest you can cast and hold depth in the current du jour. Being elevated on pier adds a breeze factor with line as a sail so you sometimes can go a hair lighter at beach level.

Edit/update: I use tandem 1/8 oz jigs at smallest for slow fall but castability. For deeper water or current/surf, I use an east coast combo of 1 1.5 or 2 oz butter-bean on bottom and a 1/8 dropper a foot above. To reach my max range I shift to something like a deadly dick or ava, and for smaller mouthed fish like shad I put a 1/2 or 1 oz trolling sinker ahead of a small jig (no gulp here). Works like a bubble and crappie jig but deep.

I usually use a 3/8 oz. head. any color as long as it is red, 3" nuclear chicken shrimp, crawl for flounder and reds, can swim it a bit for specks. I di fish bridge pilings and stikes usually occur on the fall, kinda like flipping for bass...

I agree with that setup fishing more vertical along the bridge pilings. Usually strike on the drop.
