Gulf Shores/Fort Morgan surf fishing advice needed.

First off, hello from new orleans.

I will be heading over to gulf shores labor day weekend for my wife's, cousin's beach weeding. I am trying to make an eventful trip out of it and do some fishing. I am just looking for what to expect fishing this late in the summer and what preferred bait and method would be.

    Thanks.

    Welcome Cory

Early September is still summertime and the fishing could still be slow.
You can expect some action with ladyfish near the surfline feeding on small minnows.
Try a small spoon or jig or Bubble rig. Bluefish or small spanish mackerel could be within reach too.

Some decent sized whiting should be showing up, but the schools are small and locations are limited.
A (VERY) few pompano can also be caught, but 'rat' reds and slot sized redfish should be a bit a more prevelent. They will respond to lures or dead shrimp fished on bottom.

Sharks and rays will still be near shore and a chunk of FRESH ladyfish, bluefish, or mullet fished on bottom off the beach should get eaten sooner or later. Then hang on! :headbang:

    Hope this helps!

Can't add much from what Pier#r said, he's one of the top anglers in the area, and knows the water like no one else. A trip to the pier might be well worth it if conditions are better there, just keep an eye on the reports and you should get an idea of what's going on.

Get some white shrimp @ Winn Dixie, go to the end of Mobile St. Use a 2 hook pomp rig, weight to match surf condition, I set 4 poles out, set in my chair and weight 4 the bite. mike:3some:  :yippee:
