That is sad, can't imagine having to leave your friend behind to save your self.
I have had some scary times out there in the Gulf, but never sunk, thank God.

I can't imagine the thought process throughout that ordeal. I'd hate to be put in that position. Prayers for all involved. It's amazing that his friend was recovered.

Re: Gulf fishing tragedy
That's a sad story.
We don't think about that kind of stuff but damn.... it's gotta be hard on that guy.
I think about how we go out regularly and it's not diet coke were drinking, makes ya stop a think for a sec.

Re: Gulf fishing tragedy
That's horrible...a nightmare.....no life raft? no EPIRB? on a 30 foot vessel? On our fishing team, we have a ditch plan, a life raft, a ditch bag, multiple EPIRBs....everyone has a responsibility, whether it be the maydays, grabbing the life raft or ditch bag, etc... to insure that we all come home if the boat begins sinking. Before someone new boards the boat, they get briefed.....the water isn't forgiving. Prayers sent to these gentlemens' families.....

Re: Gulf fishing tragedy
That's a horrible story no doubt (not trying to sound like a D*#K) but did I read it correctly that they unhooked from the oil rig they were on?

Re: Gulf fishing tragedy
It is amazing how fast something like this can happen. One minute your on a boat and the next you are in the water. Tragic story.

Re: Gulf fishing tragedy
Tragic events. The survivor will indeed "woulda, coulda, shoulda" for the rest of his life. A fresh reminder that even if the water looks calm, things can fall apart.
And yet another story (the one with the football players a year or so ago comes to mind) when the boat is filling with water and no one notices until the engine compartment is flooded. Make mine an outboard powered boat, should I win the lottery.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
