    Fort Morgan

Im coming to the Alabama coast in early April and would like to try fishing the surf in Fort Morgan. Are there any good areas to surf fish in Fort Morgan. Also what type of fish are expected to be in the surf in early April.

Im also thinking about trying to fish at the pier, is this a good time of year to fish the pier.

Its a great time to fish both the surf and pier. Some great fish to target from the surf will be redfish, pompano, bluefish, speckled trout ect. Off the pier spanish, and possibly even kings may be running just depending on water temps at the time. You can also still target sheepshead, and everything you can from the surf as well.

Drive over to Little Lagoon with some Bull Minnows and catch some door mats.

    Re: Fort Morgan

Are there any areas of the surf that are better than the others? Gulf side or Bayside? I was looking at a map, and the beach around the pass out of the bay looks like it could be good but i cant tell if this area can be accessed.

    Thank yall for the help!

It can be accessed. Haven't been able to try it yet, but I was told there is a sand bar within casting distance from the point with a little wade called Dixie Bar. Heard there is some great fishing there.

You can park there at the Ft. Then walk to the bayside by the cannon the walk around to the point. It's really not too bad of a walk but I personally haven't done all that good from the beach.

As everyone said, Dixie Bar is a great fishing spot. I can't remember the exact depth, but it's pretty deep right off the bar and into the ship channel.

Back in the day there used to be a tidal pool at the point. You could throw a net there and catch some mullet or bait to shark fish off the point. I think the hurricanes pretty much did away with that ALTHOUGH I haven't been down there in years. To far for me to walk. If you go to the point be careful of the current ahd the dropoff. It goes from 4 ft. to 12 ft within a few feet. I have caught sharks and lots of redfish from the point. Also, if you drive to where you park to go into the fort as said before go pass the cannon and to the bayside there are some rock pilings sticking up. You can wade out to them and climb up on them but you have to be careful of the barnacles. They will cut the crap out of you. But if you take some live bait and cast out, there are usually flounder all around there. Sheephead will also be there at certain times of the year.
