    Fly fishing fresh and saltwater

Does anyone have any tips on fly fishing around here. I've had my fly rod a while now, caught a few bass on a streamer but not a lot of luck really. was planning on doing some fishing this weekend, may hit up some ponds or even take the kayak out in the bay (fairhope area) or even the delta.

Let me know how you do with the fly rod, I have fly fished reds & specks in the Upper Laguna Madre, in TX. but I could have caught more if I had left the fly rod home in MN. and used the spinning rod.

Don't get wrong, Clark, I fly fish from March, weather permitting, until the end of Oct. weather permitting, in MN. mainly for trout but I have caught salmon, walleye, bass, & northern on the fly rod. Standing in waders, in 2' of Laguna Madre mud, casting a 8# fly rod got to be old for a 70 year old. A spinning rod would have worked much better. I used a shrimp fly with 6# fluorocarbon for a tippet. It didn't make much difference what you used as long as it looked like a shrimp. I have never fished the area around Gulf Shores, I plan to this Winter, but I think the GS area has a much better bottom than the Laguna Madre. Am I going to bring my fly rod down, I don't know yet. What do you think, guys? Is it worth it.

I ended up only fishing freshwater this weekend, caught some bass and a ton of bluegill on dry flies and a cricket fly. was some good fun but i think im going to try some saltwater next weekend.
