Flounder Gigging Help!
Hello everyone,
My brother loves to eat flounder. Family is coming down in late July and we are staying down on West Beach towards the end of the road. Gulf to the south and I guess that would be Little Lagoon to the North. Anyway, he wants to try and do some flounder gigging while we are there. He youtubed something and is making some lights out of pvc and led's. He bought some gig heads the other day at Gander Mountain and I saw him with a wooden broom handle the other day that I guess he is planning on mounting the gig head to.
I searched the posts trying to find some info on the subject and it looks like prime time to do this is in Oct., is he going to be wasting his (and mine) time in trying this endeavor this time of year. We have access to little lagoon as well as the beach, is there any particular area down that way that we need to concentrate on that is traditionally better to try. Any tricks to the trade that we need to know? We do not have a boat and will be wading.
Can travel to a better area if need be so all info is greatly appreciated. Don't want to impose on anyones honeyhole but just want a decent chance for success in the quest.
I have never gigged for flounder before either but have gigged frogs and shot many a fish at night with bow and arrow. What are we looking for in the water? I am sure they don't glow bright orange under the light and could be difficult to spot with the sand on top of them. Should we be able to see their eyes glow?
Thanks!

If you stick a doormat, hang on tight to the gig handle. If you stick a friend's foot, run like hell!

they leave a trail in the sand , sometimes that can give them away .....need calm water very few ripples makes it easier to see them....they can be very shallow or deeper waist high or so, take your time and have fun....seems like you have a good start now just need to put in some miles wading

Thanks guys for the replies. Should we concentrate off the beach or would little lagoon be better? Any area that is typically better than any other down that way?
Would it be better to walk in a zig zag pattern away from shore to about waist high and then back in shallow to try and see if there is a depth preference or would you just get thigh high and walk parallel to shore to locate them?
Thanks

If the surf is up to any degree forget about it and wade Little Lagoon. SHUFFLE YOUR FEET for safety from sting rays..............
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
