    Flounder fishing in June

Hey guys , we are heading down the first week of June to stay a week. How's the flounder bite during that time? On average , I know it can vary , it's fishing. Me and my son usually stick to the surf and pier. Thanks for any advice you all can give.

Carolina rig around the pilings with a 1oz egg sinker, mono leader and size 2 kahle hook. IMHO bull minnows are hard to beat, sometimes hard to find and never cheap. Live shrimp are excellent but there will be thousands of bait robbers around in June to devour your shrimp before a game fish can get to it. Gulp Alive 4" swimming mullet work but the bait thieves will destroy the curl tail within seconds. 3" Gulp shrimp are ok but expensive and not as effective as minnows and need to be worked slowly. A 1/2oz white Looney Jig(J&M has bunches of them cheap) tipped with a belly strip or a stingray wing strip is a good choice but must be worked really slow. The Looney jig is also a good lure for Spanish Mackerel at that same time of year. Flounder seem to be from the "tee" North at night and early morning and then deeper as the day progresses. YMMV

Thanks man. Guys on here are always helpful. What else can we expect to catch in the surf/pier during early June?

Check the first post (STICKY) under the Q&A category. Pretty near everything we've got. Most popular would be king and Spanish Mackerel, but if those are not to your taste others are around.
People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

typically I do best fishing for them in april/may and september/october. Outside of that its kind of hit and miss. Chillinfish is pretty much spot on as to bait. Pay attention to tidal flows, wind direction. Toward dusk go to the shallows and look for schools of those "glass" minnows close to shore, I have seen and caught some big flounder lurking under them by the lights. As the day goes on they move to deeper water north of the tee and all around the octi.

Shrimp can be a good bait but more times than not is going to be eaten by other species. Bull minnows and smaller finger mullet are the way to go.
