flounder fishing
Where is a descent place to catch flounder as they make their way to spawn in the gulf?

Re: flounder fishing
Just about any outlet from the inland bays to the gulf can be productive and the calendar date will vary some from year to year depending upon how much early cold weather we have. I have done best from late October to late November in general. Locally I have done well at Ft Morgan on the piers there, at Perdido Pass from the seawall, and at West lagoon pass west of Gulf shores (but I hear that construction might mess that one up this fall). If you can handle the walk the jetty at Perdido Pass would probably be good. One year I slayed them during Thanksgiving week at west lagoon pass and the following year it ended the week before Thanksgiving. Average size is usually great during this migration. Out of 37 flounders caught over a 4 day period one year only one was small enough to cook whole. All others were too big and I fileted them. A friend of mine did well on Dauphin Island at this same time of year.

Re: flounder fishing
Actually the best I have ever done at west lagoon pass was live finger mullet rolled on the bottom with the outgoing tide. Used a small egg sinker to keep it close to the bottom but moving. I caught the finger mullet in my cast net. The best I ever did at Perdidio Pass was with a jig and a speckled trout GOTCHA grub. Of course bull minnows are good but both of these cases show they are not always the answer. By the way the Perdido catch was also on an outgoing tide.
