Fishing this weekend
Im coming down this weekend. What should I expect, sheepshead, whiting? What baits should I bring to use? I'll only be here from Saturday to Monday! :fishing:

Re: Fishing this weekend
Live or fresh dead shrimp, ghost shrimp aka sand fleas, cut mullet/finger mullet.
From what others report, a few hard to find Sheepies, same with Reds, some Whiting & Pomps hiding in the shallows.
Fishing hasn't been too good, especially with the recent weather.

Thanks man. I really want to catch pompano. I've never fished for them though. Any tips on that?

Ghost shrimp and sand fleas are differentGive a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

This is also known as Sandflea, but not to be used as bait oke1:

Re: Fishing this weekend
Maybe you've seen it but there's a good thread down in the fishing report section on sheepies at the pass. If it is all new to you, then hiring pier#r would be the best $100 or so you would spend on your whole trip. He would have saved me more than that in buying stuff I didn't need...even more in time wasted not knowing what to do.

Welcome Shane!
This time of year pompano are going to be 'hit-or-miss' (mostly miss :-(
But there will be some lurking just outside the surfzone especially on the incoming tide in the late afternoons.
Look for the 'washouts' along the beach where there is a break in the bar.
They prowl there looking for food being swept out of the 'beach holes'.
Other than that the prospects for whiting are fairly good (use FRESH dead shrimp on bottom in the same locations or) from the GSPPier. Also sheepshead should be available at the pier or seawall at Perdido Pass (8 miles east). Use LIVE shrimp or fiddler crabs for them with a light presentation (small hook and just enough weight to keep the bait in front of them.
Hope this helps!(RETIRED) mostly.

Re: Fishing this weekend

Great question Dave While we’ve got #rs attention here I’d like to know how close we are to Navarres water temp Which is where Surfline pulls there info I usually subtract 2 degrees due to the nipple...
