Fishing spots near gulf shores
Hello all!
TL;DR at bottom
My in-laws will be taking the family down to some property they are renting for a few days on the beach this coming summer time. I don't know where or exactly when yet (last I checked they didn't have the details, and I'm not gonna pester them for them as I'm just happy to come along).
However, not knowing the area very well, I'm wondering what are some good spots to hit up to do some fishing. I'm looking for good spots I can access via walking as we don't have a boat. I'm a simple man, just looking for a place to catch some redfish, or trout or anything that will bite when hitting areas like that. I more fond of doing inshore/flats type stuff rather than surf, but will do whatever is available. I don't mind getting to any area, regardless of trek; however, I would need some easier to access location as well just in case my wife or father-in-law decide that they want to join.
TL;DR new to area. looking for saltwater fishing areas. I know nothing. inshore/flats > surf style. need some that are easy to access but appreciate others that aren't as well (for myself).
Thanks for any and all assistance.

If you are on the beach, then you don't have to go anywhere. You can catch whiting, pompano, reds, etc.., right in front of the house.
When & where are you staying>?Carl

Shelby Lakes (freshwater fishing license and permit) if you don't mind wading with alligators. The ICW on canal road holds flounder, speckled trout, redfish and black drum. Getting your bait to them before a saltwater catfish gets it is next to impossible with live bait.

If you like flats fishing the best place to do that is at St. Andrews Bay (about 3 miles east of Fort Morgan entrance). You will want to be there at first light, it is very shallow and the fish are shy. Lots of wadeable water.
Best place is the Pier. For trout you need to be there at 3:00 am or so.People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.
If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.
