Fishing from the public pier in Fairhope
Any info as to when to fish and what type of fish I might catch at this pier? I am looking for a place where I can catch flounder, speckled trout or redfish fishing from the beach, bank or a pier. Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
David

Re: Fishing from the public pier in Fairhope
Fairhope (aka No Hope) Pier can be 'a tough nut to crack' sometimes.
Same with Big Mouth (Weeks Bay), Mayday (in Daphne), Daphne Park and Maeher Park (Causeway).
They can be good, but often will just break your heart like a cute highschool honey used to ;-)
Timing is often the key, and good networking.
When you fish these places get to know the regular faces and try to make friends with 'the good ones'.
Often just knowing the fish are biting better in the morning, or evenin, or at night makes a HUGE difference in your success rate.
Also what bait works is a great tip to try and gleen from the regular fishers.
Summer and fall, I look for fairly clear water and fish at night (midnight til sunup) under the lights @ Fairhope Pier.
If the water is dingy baits and strips and jigs with Gulp Shrimp will work better usually.
In clearer water I have better luck with 2 1/2" Fin-s jigs, and DOA shrimp.
LOTS of white trout and a few of the other suspects...(RETIRED) mostly.

I fished the pier on the causeway (Maeher Park) years ago and caught Sheepshead, Crappie and a couple of Bass using live shrimp.

Go to the end with some dead shrimp and Walmart double hook leaders at night. You should catch all the white trout you could ever want.
I also catch flounder during the day up and down the pier, when I want to,
There are also tons of crabs if you want to catch those.

What do you use to catch the flounder there? Have you ever caught flounder at night there?
Thanks,
David

I've caught flounder at that pier before with 3" gulp shrimp in new penny. I agree with the others that say it can be very hit or miss.

Yep, the 3" Gulp in New Penny color is a great 'go to' lure for flounder just about anywhere in Alabama (nite or day).
I've also caught flounder (and a few specks) on the 2 1/2" Fin-s in the 'Salt & Pepper' colors under the lights @ Fairhope.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
