    First trip to the pier!

Well me and my boy Jack met pier#r Monday for our first trip to the pier. It was cold and windy and nobody was catching anything outside of a short window of a pompano run and a few sheepshead out on the end (and I mean a few). David gives very good info if you pay attention and focus on the info and not the fishing during the few hours you spend with him. On top of that he's just a good guy and it's obvious from the way others greet him he knows what he's doing. I think his pier name should be the small hook light line king! Lol! I use heavier gear fishing for bluegill than he does for 6 lb sheepshead! Well after our trip we warmed up at the room and went to J&M and loaded up on tackle and gear we learned of from David. Went back Thursday afternoon by ourselves 65 degrees, overcast and 25 mh wind.

Yep we hammered em! It's a tough VERY light bite! Had to rely on the ol crappie knowledge. Thanks David. Oh I met a nice bunch of folks. Gave my spot to a nice man Bob and his grandson for netting my fish and I sat back and netted fish for them and some others. Had as much fun netting fish for folks as I did fishing! Next purchase! Net! See you all in May I hope! Only had 2 decent weather days out of 7.

Nice catch! My wife and I are heading back down first week of June for some more Pier fishing, and a boat trip with friends we met from the forum! May even try to get another trip in before the year ends!

    Well done Blindbat!
I bet Jack was grinnin from ear to ear ;-)

One thing we didn't get to cover on Monday was how to fillet those sheepies, but I'm sure you figured that out too.
So glad to hear about when folks I fish with take that knowledge and run with it!

Well I learned on the job. The last one was a lot better than the first one. They have some thick ribs. I ended up going from the backbone in and then from the belly in then lifted up the filet from the tail and worked it up through the ribs to the head. Then filet the meat off the skin and cut the ribs out. Not as easy as a crappie by any means! But nice filets. Got eight freezer bags full!

Thanks much for the video. Caught one last fall and didn't do a very good job cleaning it. Sending this to the husband to study. Arriving on Wed this week and hope to have even 1/2 the luck I'm seeing from this past weekend.
