Welcome to the forum johnpat!
If you walk to the pier, just remember that the fish you catch won’t walk with you back to the condo; you will have to carry them oke1:
As for the tackle, make J & M Tackle in Orange Beach your first stop. They have combos in all prices and sizes. They also know all about fishing and give solid advice. Steer clear of the junk at WalMart.
Also if you want groceries to take home, I highly recommend that you hook up with Pier#r aka David Thornton; he will make sure your fishing experience is productive.
