Fin-Nor #3 fly reel help?
I just acquired a Fin-Nor anti reverse #3 fly reel. When I bought it the description said left or right hand retrieve. Turns out it's right hand and I need left. Anybody out there have any idea where I can get the kit? I know this is a long shot but it doesn't hurt to try. It's in unfished condition and I got a deal on it.

Have you tried flipping the AR assembly over?

I haven't been inside it but from looking at the paperwork that came with it there is a ratchet shaft that has a gear attached that will only work one way. I'm thinking this would have to be changed and the dogs that it engages in would have to be flipped. The retaining screw that holds it all together may have to be left hand threads too.

Fin Nor has been bought by Zebco. I contacted them because I need to change a right hand #3 to left hand. They gave me the following person to contact for this: Dave Conners 910-845-5323. I spoke to him today and he has the conversions for the #2 but not for the #3. He is currently doing the repair work for Fin Nor thru Zebco.

I hope you got a good deal on it, if you want to fish it. I looks nice enough to display with a old bamboo rod. Good luck!!!!

flyguy, that's probably what I'll do is put it on display. It'd be cool to have the option to fish it though. I first bought it mainly for the resale value but it's a thing of beauty. I'm not sure I will be able to turn it loose.

Pier#r, I actually emailed the "new" company and they gave me Dave Conner's number. I also did a little research and found his email address. I haven't called him but I did shoot him an email. I haven't heard back from him yet. I hope everything's alright with him. Like I was saying, I knew it was a long shot but you don't know if you don't ask. Thanks for trying!

A 3# is pretty light, I would only use it on small trout or pan fish. It would really look nice on a 3#, 7' - 8' bamboo above a fireplace.

It's actually a big reel, tarpon sized.
#3 Fin-Nor anti-reverse fly reel. 3 5/8" diameter for 7-10 wt lines. 1" spool width. Right-hand retrieve. Weighs 12.25 oz. Will hold approximately 200 yards of 30 lb. backing.
plus 40 yards of fly line.

Sorry! I thought it was a 3# reel for a 3# rod. That reel would not look good on a 7' -8' rod. It would still look nice on a mantel or in a party room or a den on a 10' - 12' rod. Let me know what you end up doing with it. Depending on it's condition, if it has never been fished, I would never fish it.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
