    It figures----

I just got back from a visit to the shoulder surgery doctor and he said that I've progressed to the point that I can do pretty much anything I want to, as long as I can stand the pain. Upon close questioning, he admitted that fishing was included, as was flying if I could flap my arms fast enough.

Now I get back home, look at the weather for tomorrow and find that the d@mned wind is supposed to blow like the wrath of Mama for the rest of the week. There just ain't no justice in this world for a po' boy like me. I'm gonna have to try it anyhow---it's been since the middle of July. I know I won't be able to fish very much, but Haywire is going to get a hook wet, one way or another.

    Poor me.

    Did somebody laugh?

Oh, I know who it was. "If you want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans."

    The fish. Not the shoulders!

Yes, that was me that laughed. But I was laughing WITH you Haywire, NOT at you!

What surgery did you have? Ima have to have a torn rotator cuff repaired soon. I'm told that surgery is a stone cold beatch. 8-12 month rehab back to 100%
    Screw it. Let's ride.

If you're going to fish for Spanish just an underhand flip with a jig or spoon will do. King fishing, no problem. Just have to cast 1 time and it will float around all day long!

The doc said mine was more extensive than rotator cuff replacement, with lots of repair of stuff and reattachment of ligaments. Be that as it may, it was almost six weeks ago and things have healed enough that when it hurts, it doesn't mean that I'm tearing things loose, just stretching them out. As you heard, it will be several months before things get back to normal, but I couldn't keep on going the way things were---I was down to twelve casts with the bubble rig before I hollered "calf rope". One of the worst things is having to sleep in the recliner for several weeks---gets to smelling a little funky, no matter how often you shower, which is another story.

It has been inconvenient and somewhat painful, but they make meds for that and I am not too proud to take them. Living right here close to the pier and walking out and watching others catch fish while I was incapacitated made me feel like the Sultan's teenage son who had lost his harem privileges---he knows exactly what's going on and what it feels like, but he can't participate. Frustrating, to put it mildly.

Good luck with yours. It won't be fun, but it's bearable---and could be a hell of a lot worse. DON'T PUSH YOUR REHAB!!!

I knew cutting up a pecan tree was a mistake. Those two foot long x about 18" thick rounds aren't as light as they used to be. So much for reaching down with one hand to snatch it upright for splitting.....

I had the same surgery ( torn rotator cuff and ligaments) about 12 years ago. I had to sleep in a recliner with the sling on also for about 8 weeks just as Haywire mentioned. Couldn't stand to lay flat because just the weight of my shoulder was very painful. Physical therapy for 3 months plus stretching and icing at home. Took about a year before mine was totally pain free. I am right handed and it was my right shoulder. One of the hardest things for me was learning to take care of the paper work left handed! Good luck!
