I always read your articles even when I won’t be down for a while. You should write a book!

David, great write-up. The more I learn the better I fish.

I have a question- assuming everything is about caloric intake vs calories expended, you say lethargic fish prefer live bait over dead, but it would seem easier for a fish to consume the dead bait than a possibly 'resistant' (fight/flee) live bait.

Is it because the nutrients are so much more in live bait that it's worth the calorie(energy burned or gained) trade-off?

I've noticed over the years that when fish have been stressed by cold it takes them a while to get their appetite back before they start pursuing prey with the same gusto they had before the freeze.
Maybe I mis spoke that in they likely prefer FRESH dead over frozen, and small live bait over large live bait.
In the case of sheepshead, they may be feeding, but strictly feeding on algae instead of anything they have to chase.
