Easter Weekend Fishing in Gulf Shores Area
I'm from new Orleans and am planning on spending the Easter weekend in your area. Would like to do some fishing while I'm there (necessary diversion from the beach) but have never fished there before and really don't know what to expect. What can/should I fish for and what gear should I bring? tips, techniques, etc.?
also, hows the surf fishing out there this time of year?
Any help is appreciated!!

[size=12pt]First of all, welcome to the :fishing: forum!
Looking at the fishing reports for the last several days, I would say Spanish, Kings, Sheepies and Flounder are strong possibilities for the weekend. There is always a chance for Pompano, Whiting, Red and Black Drum around the pier too.
If you fish the surf, be careful not to snag a bathing beauty, beaches will be packed.
If you target Kings you need a 7’ or 8’ rod with a reel that will hold 250 to 300 yards of 15# mono. For smaller species and bait, bring a smaller rig with 10# mono. Both are suitable for surf as well.
If you need anything fishing or beach related, go to J & M Tackle on Canal Rd. in Orange Beach. They also have great fishing advice, and it’s free!

Fin is always looking out for the well being of the bathing beauties.
Welcome FishOn!
I recommend heading to J&M as well, and keep in mind if you don't bring everything you need, the people on the pier are usually more than happy to help out with tips and occasional gear lending.
Get to know some folks, and enjoy your Easter weekend at the best pier in the Gulf.
