Does the cold weather slow down the fish bite at pier?

I have only lived in L(ower) A(labama) for 3 years and only go fishing at pier in summer and my dad wants to try the pier out and I finally have weekends off for a few weeks. My question is with the cold weather coming is it worth him driving 4 1/2 hours to fish. Not real sure what roll cooler weather plays with saltwater fishing as I am still learning. I want him to feel the excitement of the unknown when you get a fish on. I have yet to land a king and look foward to the day I do but over summer I was able to land a large red fish and even a stingray (damn they fight) but my favorite was one of the pesky blacktips sharks I had on for several min b4 I cut line. Thanks for any replys I get and look foward to next time I get to come down :fishing:

You never know unless you go. There's always some fish around, its just a matter of what's biting, and how to target them. This time a year the redfish start to come through pretty thick at times, sheepshead should be starting to show up, this is also a great time to fish shallower water for pompano, flounder, and whiting. You may have good luck along some cuts along the beach and around passes.
