Dauphin Island advice
i will be in DI all next week. I have been going there for at least 30 years. It's always hit or miss in the surf, and usually only whiting, hardheads and white trout.
That said, my 7 year old is showing an interest in fishing (finally!!). Any advice on where I can bring him and expect a fair chance of hooking a few fish? Don't really care what we catch, just want him to catch a few. FYI, I have no desire to fish at Cedar Point.
Thanks, looks like a great forum.Last edited by Kook; 06-16-2014 at 01:06 PM.

You will catch a lot of fish in pelican bay. Mostly cats, trout, and shark...but the other fish are there too.
i hired pier#r this year to hopefully learn to catch a few other types of fish and to get a bit more knowledgable on what I am doing when fishing the surf so I can be more successful. You may want to do the same.
i wasted a lot of money the first day or two last year buying all kinds of baits, turns out I had the best luck with cutbait which I caught myself. Catch a few pinfish, whiting, etc and cut into strips. Don't let it get hot in the sun or soggy in a watered down cooler. Otherwise get the freshest shrimp you can find and use small chunks.
i also would not even consider taking a child near cedar point pier unless it's completely empty.
good luck and let us know how you do. I'll be down there the following week.
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
